Joel Sheesley, Professor of Painting has two works represented in the Rockford Midwestern Biennial in Rockford, IL. As their website states, “The Rockford Midwestern is a biennial juried exhibition that originated as an annual showcase for local artists. 2010 marks the 71st presentation of this regional show that draws the best works from artists from a nine-state region. Artists residing in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin are eligible. With this exhibition, Rockford Art Museum shows its commitment to presenting the breadth and depth of contemporary art in the Midwest.” This year there were 48 artists with work being represented in the show. The opening reception took place this past Friday and Prof. Sheesley gratefully accepted two prestigious awards. Professor Sheesley, accompanied by his wife Joan, was delightfully surprised when it was announced that one of his paintings was awarded “Best of Show,” only to be even more overcome by the announcement not long after that the second of his two paintings was awarded the “Museum Purchase Award.”
Our department is jubilated by such wonderful news as we celebrate with you in these much deserved awards that recognize the talent and depth of both your work and your person!
The Biennial exhibition will be up through April 25th. http://www.rockfordartmuseum.org/current_exh.html
